EDLnet: Europeana Outline Functional Specification –
For development of an operational European Digital Library
This document is one of the main results of EDLnet Work Package 2 "Technical and Semantic Interoperability". It
contains the functional (and to some extent also technical) specifications of Europeana, the European Digital
Library. The latest version of Deliverable 2.5 describes the technical foundations underlying the future
implementation of Europeana as an operational service and in particular the Surrogate Model. In technical terms,
this document thus defines the goals Europeana should have reached in 2010, by the time the first operational
version will go public.

Multimatch: Metadata Schema and Mapping Evaluation and Revision
The section "project results" presents public deliverables of the Multimatch/ Multimedia Access To Cultural
Heritage. The project started in 2006 to evolve a search engine for crawling cultural heritage websites. The reports
listed below describe the underlying metadata models and the final interoperability schema:
ECHO: Metadata model report
This report defines the metadata model of the ECHO - European Chronicles on Line project (2000-2003). To enable
resource discovery on the ECHO film collections over the web, it was necessary to define content description
standards for complex, multi-layered, time-dependent and information-rich data streams. This common metadata model
was created to guarantee the interoperability with new data providers.
